A derelict building and yard in Victoria Park were transformed this week by an army of volunteers and celebrities.
Ex-Eastenders stars Nicola Stapleton and Joe Swash joined Irish pop duo Jedward, ex-glamour model Melinda Messenger and building expert John Russell from the TV programme Cowboy Builders to create a community garden and classroom for children to learn about ecology, the East London Advertiser reports.
P&G's Capital Clean Up saw volunteers spend more than eight hours removing debris and weeds, planting flowers and painting fences.
A garage was transformed into an indoor facility, while new tarmac was laid and a mural of urban art was installed to revitalise the site.
The cleanup is part of a three month programme being run by The Greater London Authority ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
People can watch the cleanup on Channel 5 on June 23rd.
